Daintree & Cape Tribulation

Due to fully reserved bus from Airlie Beach to Cairns, we had to change our plan a bit and drive all the way to Cape Tribulation ourselves. It was a long way but with the nice coastal road from Port Douglas to the rainforest. In order to access it, we had to take a ferry which took 10 minutes to get to the World Heritage site. We were surprised that no maps were provided but later we found out that there is only one road with lookouts and walking tracks on the sides.

The first lookout we reached was Alexandra lookout but all panorama was hidden by clouds and unfortunately it started raining as well. At the beginning it was just drizzling but later it became a tropical rain which continued for approximately 20 minutes. When it stopped we were happy to enjoy nice weather just for 10 minutes and it started raining again. This weather change continued for the whole day which was pretty annoying not letting us fully enjoy our stay.

We stayed in Safari Lodge and went to have a dinner at their bar. Even though we are not fans of corns but the Mexican style one was very delicious. It kept raining all evening so we had to run to our lodge which was brand new and located in the middle of rainforest. It was such a good experience to feel the tropical rain as it was heavily raining all night and you couldn’t’ hear

anything else.

Next day in the morning the rain stopped. Even though it was cloudy and we knew how quickly weather can change, we took a risk and decided to walk to the beach which was 10 minutes away. On the way to the beach it started raining and we got totally wet in 2 minutes - we have never been so wet after the rain.

Few hours later weather improved and we could explore wild beaches and walks surrounded by many mangroves.

On the way to Daintree village we stopped for Bruce Belcher's Daintree River Cruises during which we saw 3 crocodiles. All of them were laying on the coast and one even started yawning which looked a bit scary. Due to their grey color it is difficult to see them because they get lost in the same color landscape. During the cruise we also saw python on the tree, 3 bright green frogs, tons of flying foxes and a decent size crab. Seeing those animals in real life, not in the zoo, was a great experience.
