Half-day in Beijing

Updated: Jul 6, 2018

Stressed and lost! That’s the condition I am in now. All plans of getting to know Beijing and especially the Great Wall of China collapsed. Stress and tiredness didn’t let me think smoothly and my mind was going through thousands of ideas and emotions. I can’t give up!

Going to the city centre of Beijing and getting directions or answers from the locals are extremely difficult and challenging. Even the youth and intelligently dressed up people can’t even say ‘hello’ and show where the entrance to the subway is. Thus when meeting the person speaking fluent English I had to ask as many questions as I had at the time because getting answers later could be a challenge. I went to the territory of Forbidden City which unfortunately was closed on Monday but I really enjoyed walking in the gardens around it and gazing at the National Centre of the Performing Arts and was surprised of the cleanliness of the city (at least at the central part of it).

Before going back to the airport I made the last stop at the Lama Temple station where I accidentally found beautiful narrow streets with many artists’ galleries and cozy bars. I didn’t feel like I am in China it just felt so good and everybody knew a bit of English!

13 hours of travelling to Beijing, 24 hours without sleep after that, during which I managed to do a walk of 33500 steps. My physical and emotional batteries are too low to think or move properly. But somehow I succeeded in overcoming Chinese challenge and I am finally on a plane to Australia. Hopefully welcoming in Sydney will be more pleasant.
