While having a cup of tea in the morning and checking the places in Cape Le Grand National Park, I found out that 2 days ago there were bush-fires and due to that the park was closed and people camping there had to spend the night at the beach. But according to the news situation was under control and the park was reopened.
Getting closer to the national park we noticed smokes coming up nearby and the car got filled up with the uncomfortable silence. Luckily, it didn’t affect the opening of the park and the bush-fires were stopped in few hours.
The first stop was at the beginning of the hike to the Frenchman’s peak. Even though the sign says that the return walk is 3 hours, you can easily complete it in 1 – 1.5 hours, however the walk is pretty steep and difficult. We started the walk at 10 am and it was already 32 degrees. From the top we could see the turquoise color ocean, white sand beaches and bush-fires affected areas. Despite the conditions and difficulty the panoramic view was worth the climb.
Finally it’s the time for famous Lucky Bay and sunbathing kangaroos in it. While driving down the hill I saw the view of the beach and it took my breath away. It’s like paradise!!! It seemed like an edited photo you can often see on Instagram but that’s real.
The beach was crowded by people and 4WD cars (which were allowed there) and unfortunately there were no kangaroos around. We lost hope in seeing any of them but to our surprise one kangaroo came close to us. That was again one of the things difficult to imagine. It seemed like a fairy tale to come true.
During our stay at the beach my eyes were shining, smile always on my face and I was happy like a kid.
We decided to have some lunch at the picnic area nearby and 2 kangaroos joined us. A slice of apple we gave to them seemed not enough and they stayed with us for 20 minutes until we had to leave and look for the campsite.
I read quite a good reviews about the Quagi Beach campsite which we decided to try getting in. The last 10 km was on unsealed road which was pretty bad knowing the fact that mostly 4WD are driving there. We reached the campsite around 6 pm and unfortunately all areas were already occupied and the parking was allowed just during the day time. However we saw 2 cars already parked and the other one coming after us and all of them seemed not to worry about the rangers and camping there so we joined them. That was a beautiful place to stay with 2 minutes to the nice beach and watch the sunset having few drinks.
