The power of trees!

Just after leaving the campsite it started raining. We headed towards Denmark which made me question: Are we in Western Australia where is 360 days of sun or are we in Europe?! It seemed more like European weather.

We decided to have some light breakfast in Denmark hoping for the rain to stop, did some second hand shopping for unexpected cold weather (it was supposed to go down to 11 degrees at night) and headed to Elephant Rocks and Cove.

That was an absolutely amazing view! Unfortunately weather didn’t let us have a dip there but at least it stopped raining.

After 1,5 hour drive we reached Giant Valley of Tree Tops Walk. The entrance fee was 21$/ person but we were lucky as other tourists just handed us 2 tickets. The walk was short but impressive taking us 40 m high and letting us be above all the trees in the forest. After completing the walk we did the Ancient Empire walk which was free and we got to know more about those trees there.

After 1,5 hours drive I needed to stretch my legs a bit so we climbed Mount Chudalup but couldn’t stay long on the top because it was extremely windy. 360 panoramic views were stunning – totally different from what we have seen so far.

The next adventure was quite challenging. The tallest of three fire lookout trees, a 75 m karri tree, in Pemberton area - the Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree.

In order to reach the lookout platform we needed to climb 165 metal spikes hammered into the trunk. It took us 20 minutes to convince ourselves that the view at the top is worth overcoming our fears and we were right! The view was breathtaking! Connecting with nature while being above all these trees was an amazing experience.

As weather wasn’t great, we had to change our plan and skip the visit to Yeagarup sand dunes where we planned to camp so we drove to the Margaret River region and stayed at Westbay Retreat campsite. Rain was constantly on and off but it didn’t ruin our evening enjoying Sloppy Joes and having mulled wine.
