Welcome to Australia!

After such Chinese challenges I am FINALLY in Sydney. It is supposed to be mid-winter - sun is shining, +18 degrees, well... not so bad. By the way, it is mid-summer in Lithuania and when I left it was only +12 degrees. However it doesn't necessarily mean that you can enjoy warm here. Australians do not care about the heating and thermal insulation due to short periods of so called ‘winter’. But for us, foreigners, it is a challenge! Despite warm and sunny days it gets quite cold in the evenings and you can feel wind all day long which makes the feeling of being colder inside the apartment than outside. The first night in Sydney was the biggest challenge of sleeping in my life. 2 sweaters, socks, wool scarf and 2 blankets and I could still feel wind blowing through my face and freezing nose. But what surprised me the most is that actually Australians also feel cold but they solve the problem easily – they just take the bottle and fill it with hot water, hug it and sleep with it, and they do that all life! Crazy people!

Tiredness and jet lag killed me. I couldn’t understand whether it’s a day or a night. I was walking through the parks in Sydney and I was really surprised by so many people doing sports at the day time. There were more runners than pedestrians. Will I be one of them? While walking in the streets surrounded by skyscrapers, people in a rush and English-speaking, I felt like I am somewhere in US having a holiday. It looked even more realistic when I visited Double Bay Beach where families with their children who wanted to get to know me where playing on the sand. It takes time to start feeling that it’s not only a vacation.
